SHADOWFAX

Leif Knutsen, on Shadowfax—
"Shadowfax was built by me, for me. She was built to be a research vessel—to put the concept of the Big Foot Hull Form to the test in real world conditions. She has been taken on extensive sea trials from the Puget Sound to Icy Straits, Alaska and has put in nine years of cruising the Pacific Northwest. Her performance has shown her to be all that I had hoped for. Here is a vessel that is light, yet stable, maneuverable, but holds her course, is fuel efficient* and is capable of carrying immense loads and coming home safely. This vessel continues to prove the merits of the Big Foot Hull Form. Examination of Shadowfax's performance in widely varied waters have aided me in ten years of refinement of the hull design."

* Fuel consumption for the last 150 hours of winter cruising
using two different operators has averaged 1/3 gallon per hour.

Some of Shadowfax's accomplishments are described in Chapter One of "Small Boat Cruising to Alaska,"
by Leif G. Turdahl.
